Camera Shots Used

What Camera Shots Did We Use?

Close Up
We used close ups to the girls and mans face to show their emotions. We had close ups to the girls face to show that she was frightened and not comfortable about the situation she was in. We included a close up of the man to show that he was the opposite of the girl’s emotions relaxed and content about what was going on. We also had close ups of the setting like the gramophone and the phone to show that it was set in the 1920’s.

Extreme Close Up
We had many extreme close ups to the characters faces. We had a close up to the girls eye watering and her biting her lips which again showed that she was worried. We had close ups to her clothing and shoes as well to show her high status. We had close ups to the male characters cigar and hat to show that he was the mistrustful character and that he wasn’t a good character.

180 degree Rule
We had to include a 180 degree rule in our animatic which was needed by the exam board. We had the 180 degree rule when the female character came into the place looking around the room. In out 180 degree rule shot we started from the bell on the wall all around to the phone to show that the equipment and the props we used was suitable for our era.

Tilt
We had a tilt up the building (The Monument) showing that it was a big building when compared to the girl. She looked precious and venerable because she is small compared to the big building. Also we included the tilt up to building to make our audience want to know what’s next. This is because there was no dialogue when she was on the phone so they would want to know why she was scared and why she is there.

Shot Reverse Shot
We also had a shot reverse shot which was also wanted by the exam board. We had this when the male character took out the envelope with the photos inside it. We had his grinning face standing up and the female character with the bag in her handing looking around trying to find a way to get out the building or to find a solution to the problem.

Over The Shoulder
We also included an over the shoulder shot when the female character was sitting on the chair. The male character was behind her talking to her talking about the envelope in his hand. We had this shot also to show both of there emotions and that one was unperturbed and one was uncomfortable about the circumstances.

This is a over the shoulder shot. We used this shot in our Plimenary task just like it was done in the photo.

Filming Process

Filming Process

Before we started to film we had to go and learn how to edit using Macs on a school day. It was hard but fun because we had to edit a video given to us and then edit a video we recorded called ‘The Dream.’ We worked in groups of three to record the shop scenario given to us. We had to add sound tracks on the videos and titles before showing it to the rest of the class. After that course we went home w with the camera and the equipment given to us and looked over the storyboard we drew up for our animatic. We started recording Friday night at my house with the help of our families and friends. When we finished the house scene we went to the Monument the next day which was a Saturday and recorded the staircase scene. It was a challenging because it was a long way from the area we lived in and it was hard to find. When we found the Monument we had to climb up the stairs to the top so we had different angles in our task. We had to record the same section of the video from different angles which was tiring and a lot of hard work. We had our storyboard throughout our filming process so that we added all the rules given by the exam board which was the 180 degree rule and the shot reverse shot with a character opening a door and walking in a room. We didn’t record our Preliminary task as it was in the storyboard we started from the house scene and then went on to record the stairs. After the stairs we had a shot of Jade’s house door which we then had to edit to put in order. Our filming took 2 days and we had to record in three different scenes following our brief in these two days.

The Monument

This is a bird eye view of the staircase.

This is a long shot of the building from outside.

The Monument was where went to record our staircase scene and it was on a Saturday. We chose to do it in the Monument because we wanted to have a scene of the girl walking up spiral staircases from different shots which then would let us pick from the ones we recorded from. The Monument had 311 steps and it is an historic building which fitted into our era we chose which was the 1920’s. We also included a tilt up of the Monument because it’s an old building and it would make the audience want to know where the girl is and why she is there.

Music Used

This is the soundtrack we chose the use in our Preliminary Task. We chose to use this because our title for our task was Torment and we wanted to make our audience want to know why we chose this title. This music creates suspense and slows down towards the end showing that it comes to an end and something suspicious happens at the conclusion. It has conventions to thriller films which made us want to use it in our task. The music would start and finish with the video and it would only be quite when there a conversation.

This is the gun shot sounds link and we chose the one towards the end which comes up after the first minute. The gun is called the Dark Blue Model 10 which is an old gun fitting in our 1920’s era. We have a gun in our preliminary task and a gun shot when the girl fires the gun when there is a black out. There would be just the sound with no shots leaving the audience on a cliff-hanger.

Torment Page

This is my page for my Torment task. The images I chose fits in with the time period our video is in. I have the hat for the mafia character and I have the cigar as well to once again show the mafia character in our task. There is a gramophone as well which we have a shot of in our Preliminary Task Torment. There is also a kiss image as well to show the female character in our 1 minute task. There is also the vintage car at the background once again to show the 1920's periods.

Homepage

This is my Homepage I have created it would open into my blog posts, main task and preliminary task. I have insterted the lip stick the lips and the male and female character because of my preliminary task was based on the 1920's and that it has a link with the female character in our first task. I have the blood images around as well because we chose to have a horror thriller for our second task which is the main one.

Shot List

Animatic

Idea 1 for the Main Task

Idea 1 for the Main Task

We started to plan our main task and we have found a scenario which we think would be good. It is based on a rumour going around in a park were a part of the park is said to be cursed; having something mysterious in there. In the scenario we are going to have to friends which plan to scare the people in the park by pretending that they got hurt by the creature in the cursed section of the park. So the whole video would be recorded in the park so we would need to make sure it looked realistic with a large group working with us. When the two friends make the joke about being hurt everyone is going to be scared about the idea but when it happens for real no own would believe them again…

Homepage

Today I started to design pn powerpoint the presentation of my portfolio for my coursework. I saved photos from the internet and changed them so that it would fit my Prilimanary Task. My task was based on the 1920's so the images I chose fits the 1920's periods and our theme. I downloaded fonts which would also fit with the 1920's and wrote Torments page and the Homepage. I did this because I want to my presentation to match with my theme and the times they were set in. For example for the 1920's one (Torment) I prefered to use an old font. We also started to find our second idea for our 2 minute video and started to write some ideas down. When I started doing my presentation I concentrated on making it flow , so that it would be easy for the examiner to mark it and to check it.

Recording

- We have finished recording our Media Torment video.
- We have followed our storyboard and did the same thing so we didnt get confused.
- We fitted in the 1920 style and made sure our props and buildings looked realistic.

In the Torment video I made sure we had all the costumes ready so that there was no problems when recording it. We spoke with my partner Jessica and the characters to double check that the clothing and setting matched with the 1920's. I recorded some parts of the video and these were the scenes at the house. I also recorded some parts of the stairs in the Monument. My other important job was that I had to get the house ready so that it was ready for recording. I had the equipment at home but I had to re-organise it so that we moved around freely with the cameras and the wires. We recorded each step differently to the storyboard but we followed the notes on our story board and lists.

Torment

Language

We are going to have a short dialogue between the two characters. We know that the language must reflect the time period (1920's) were posh and clear. Our second character is a member of the mafia so we know that we need to show his background with his clothing and his accent. The language is really important because by this we are going to show the difference between the two characters and that one is the villain and one is innocent.

Representation

In our production we are going to show the relationship between the two characters. We are going to show the innocence of the young lady and we want to show to the audience that she is in pain in stress like our title torment. This fits in with the genre because theres always an innocent character needing help. We want to leave the audience on a cliff hanger for them to guess on what’s going to happen next.

Audience

The primary audience is the people that like watching Thriller films in the 1920’s. Also the primary audience would also be people interested in Thriller Films as a whole. The secondary audience is influenced by the Primary Audiences because they get advice from them. Our audience would be over the age of 12+ because the film is a thriller and I think the BBFC would class it as a 12 because there is guns and threats in it. Anyone over the age of 12 can watch Torment because there is no violence and crime shown.

Torment

Skills

For our media video we would need to know how to use the camera and how to work on the computers. We would have to work on how to make the clips. We would have to know how to use Windows Movie maker and other professional programmes such as Adobe Premier Pro.

Medium

We are going to do our work on Moving Image this is because that’s a fasinating way we can bring our ideas to live. It’s the best method to show our work to our audience.

Audience

Our video would be targeted to mostly adults and over 12's. This is because there is going to be violence in the clip also that there is going to be guns which would be a negative thing to children under the age of 12.

Group Work

I am working with my friend Jessica and we are working in a pair to record our video. We worked together to find the places and props that we are going to use in our 1 minute clip. We worked together to find everything we needed and we set out and planned our whole script and camera angles. We are going to have two characters. One of the character’s Jade Morrison and she is a drama student and our second character is Sinan Osman which is my father which is going to be the mafia character. We chose to have Jade in our video because she is a good drama student and she is studying it in Alevel. She started drama from Year 7 and got a good grade in Year 10 and 11. We chose to have Sinan Osman in our video because he also did drama in schoola and we believe that he was the best character we could find. We had other friends with us so that we can get ideas from them as well and we asked after each recording what they thought about it.

Research

For our video we researched on the live styles of people in the 1920’s. We researched on what they wore and there make-up so we had something similar to it. We also researched on the cars they had so had an old car like them so it would be like it was set in the 1920’s. We knew that we needed spiral staircases so we researched on four different places till we found the staircases. We researched on the following:
- make-up
- clothing
- cars
- places
- settings and props
